Atos (formerly Siemens IT Solutions and Services)

Job title: Principal Solution Architect

With a presence in more than 42 countries and a workforce of 78,500 business technologists, Atos offers its clients in-depth market expertise, an extended global reach and an impressive services portfolio.

My role at Atos involves performing Solution Design, Solution Lead and Solution Architect/Manager roles, successfully delivering cost effective solutions into Bids (new business) and Projects/Programmes (current Accounts), from inception stages through to handing off to Business As Usual operational teams. I am required to provide technical and commercial leadership across all portfolio items (datacentre, server, desktop, storage, networking and security) utilising IT as an enabler to drive Business benefits to both internal and external clients; guide solutions at various levels, and interface with several internal/external peers and teams to ensure timely delivery of thorough Bid and pricing documentation.

As part of this overall requirement, I am also customer facing; placing significant importance on the engagement of that customer into solutions from an early stage (making them feel part of that Solution). Understanding Unique Selling Points and being able to draft Business Cases that show compelling solution elements, I am required to articulate this to both Technical and Board level decision makers.

I work in a highly collaborative environment, and understand fully the dynamics that exist between internal and external partners, as well as working in Virtual environments or teams. I have experience in managing vertical as well as horizontal teams, successfully contributing to the resourcing element of Bids and projects; including post activity review and feedback sessions. Often this leads to mentoring less experienced consultants; providing useful insights.

Full bid life-cycle involvement from interpreting customer business requirements, set technology direction models, technical storyboards, business and technical risk management, through to technology agnostic conceptual design into technology platform selection and functional specification through logical and physical design levels. This includes full documentation, with financial modelling to show both project (Transition, Transformation) and Operational (managed service) costs over contract periods. Bid activities include the documentation and effort estimation to a standard suitable for inclusion in bid responses.

TCV for the Bids/Projects I have worked on range from £10m - £850m. I was promoted from Architect Lead Consultant to Principal Solution Architect in January 2011. Siemens IT Solutions and Services became an Atos business on 1 July 2011.

Please download my CV (.pdf format) for further details of Bids and Projects worked on in this role.

Testimonials →

Professional references are available upon request, but here are some recommendations and testimonials I have been fortunate enough to receive over my career. More can be found on my LinkedIn profile.

Dave Holton, Head of Infrastructure Architects @ Atos

"David worked for me for close to 3 years. In that time he was always one of my high performers. Level headed, and with strong leadership qualities that I saw grow over the time I managed him.

His key role for me was leading on Bid work, translating client requirements into robust and deliverable solutions at a price that would win SIS/Atos the business. This is a real area of strength, and I always felt that once I had assigned David to an activity that he would get it done. I would have no hesitation in recommended David for whatever challenge he takes on in the future."

Stef Puc, Solutions Manager @ Atos

"I have worked with David on a number of high profile, large outsource deals over the past 3 years. David is very professional, diligent and has excellent customer facing skills up to 'C' level. David has a fantastic understanding of how to pitch a solution at differing levels within an organization and understands how to get the most from his peers in a bid situation.

I would recommend David without hesitation as he has always delivered what is asked as a minimum but more importantly is willing to do what is required both pro-actively and tactically to win the business."

Tamsyn West, Team Administrator @ Atos

"David was a very highly respected team player in his role at Atos. From his work on various high profile accounts, projects and bids over the four years I have known him I would say that David would be an asset to any company looking to recruit a Principal Solution Architect.

I know that the Management Team were very sad to hear that David was relocating back to South Africa as he was a very reliable and trustworthy member of the group.

I wish David all the best in his next role and hope our paths will cross again one day."

Sean McGough, Lead Service Architect @ Atos

"It was my pleasure to work with David on two high profile new business opportunities. David was full of energy and enthusiasm and was an integral part of the team. He was a great team player and delivered on time, to cost and quality without fail on his individual deliverables. He also had time to support and coach other team members who weren't as experienced as himself. He has a professional approach to everything he does and is a strategic planner ensuring that sufficient time is divided to achieve goals.

David has a strong focus on delivering an innovative solution that will meet all of the Customer's criteria. One of David's strengths is to continually challenge all parties to ensure that the best solution is delivered and He shows flexibility and commitment to make this happen.

David has great communication skills and has a very affable personality which pays dividends in workshops, presentations, internal negotiations and approval boards. I would recommend David strongly to anyone and sincerely hope that I have the opportunity to work with him again in the future"

"While working for me and managing a technically challenging operation and a number of disparately skilled engineering professionals David demonstrated a rare combination of technical perspicacity and an acute commercial awareness that together served as an enabler for controlled yet dynamic growth."

Jonathan Bunis, CEO @ Cellectivity

"David is a bright and capable technically oriented manager. He has a broad skill set and hands-on expertise in the technical domain, but also has strong people and communication skills he uses effectively in both group and individual interactions. He is a natural leader and knows how to build a team. He has a can-do attitude and delivers on promises, with a tendency to over-perform! He worked in teams I managed at Cellectivity and Espotting, as well as on entrepreneurial projects, and I would hire him again."
